I also have the same problem after win 10 fall update. This, combined with touhcpad being ok with Windows 10 updatemakes me suspect Microsoft’s update is the problem rather than anything inherently wrong with Synaptics drivers. Complete reinstall gave same result. Windows forums – Touchpad disables when on battery.

Temporary solution popped up on Windows forums, can be found s100 next link: Windows simply powers down mice and touchpad after two seconds on battery only – any key re-activates them.
I also noticed that I can enable touchpad by clicking the physical left or right click below it, but not by tapping the touchpad. Hoping for a permanent fix soon.

ONLY on battery, internal touchpad and any external mouse i connect, gets “disabled” after about two seconds of inactivity. I have reported it as a problem to Microsoft and suggest you do the same. Message 1 of 7. Message 5 of 7.
